INTERESTING HUNTING NOTES: It is another member of the Tiny 10 antelope species and prefers very dense areas. Red duikers are often "called" in. The best suggested caliber to hunt red duiker with is a 375 with a solid bullet. Any shotgun will do, but try and stay away from high velocity calibers. The average shooting distance for the red duiker is between 20 and 35 yards.
IDENTIFICATION: The red duiker is smaller than the common duiker with a compact, arched back. The red duiker has a dark fringe of curly hair on the forehead. Directly beneath the eyes are glands that secrete a sticky secretion used to mark territories. Color varies from rusty brown on the back, and an oak-brown on the belly
Red Duiker are hunted in the Zululand and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa.
HABITAT: Red Duiker can be found in the forests and dense bush with high humidity. Dense riverfronts, dense mountainsides and general bushy areas are optimal habitats.
